Melanie,
This memoir was not as exciting as I thought it would be。 There wasn't as much about her career as I would have liked。 I wanted to hear some juicy tidbits about other actors and about the making of some of her films。 I appreciated her philosophical thoughts about things but I felt that portion was a bit overdone。 There was a lot about her early life and the abuse she suffered。 I admire her ability to deal with that。 The format was confusing as it jumped around in time quite a bit。 I felt confuse This memoir was not as exciting as I thought it would be。 There wasn't as much about her career as I would have liked。 I wanted to hear some juicy tidbits about other actors and about the making of some of her films。 I appreciated her philosophical thoughts about things but I felt that portion was a bit overdone。 There was a lot about her early life and the abuse she suffered。 I admire her ability to deal with that。 The format was confusing as it jumped around in time quite a bit。 I felt confused at times about when in her life a certain anecdote was taking place。 I did like listening to the audio version because I like it when celebrities read their own books。 At times you could really hear the emotion in her voice as she told her story。 That made it all the more real to me。 。。。more

2。5 stars - not quite the book I expected。 Some interesting stories, and I admire her as an actor and how she came back from deaths door, but very choppy reading。

I have two reasons I bought Sharon Stone autobiography。 I admire her in Casino with Robert DeNiro and she had a stroke。 I was engrossed when she wrote about the time in the hospital in San Francisco many years ago (the first doctor was more worried about Sharon Stone's autograph than dealing with the stroke, unbelievable!)。 And she was diagnosed with breast cancer, a brave and heroic lady! The rest of the memoir is standard Hollywood fare。 Part of the chapter, later on, is about her dress leading I have two reasons I bought Sharon Stone autobiography。 I admire her in Casino with Robert DeNiro and she had a stroke。 I was engrossed when she wrote about the time in the hospital in San Francisco many years ago (the first doctor was more worried about Sharon Stone's autograph than dealing with the stroke, unbelievable!)。 And she was diagnosed with breast cancer, a brave and heroic lady! The rest of the memoir is standard Hollywood fare。 Part of the chapter, later on, is about her dress leading up to the Oscars。 。。。more

I was astonished by this book and the depth of Sharon's experience。 I've always thought she was an icon and a legend。 Now I think she's a beautiful angel too。 Love and thanks for this book。 I was astonished by this book and the depth of Sharon's experience。 I've always thought she was an icon and a legend。 Now I think she's a beautiful angel too。 Love and thanks for this book。 。。。more

I found this book compelling in its honesty and the bravely way it was written。 My hat is off to Sharon Stone for being so open about her life。 It was quite a revelation。 Her work with HIV/AIDS, the homeless, children and do many other worthy causes is to be commended。 She is definitely a fighter and survivor。

The Beauty of Living Twice was a lovely new audio created by Sharon Stone that told of her career endeavors, friendships, trials and tribulations and hardships with her health。While, I'm not a huge fan I'm not unaware that she was labeled much like Marilyn Monroe -a sex symbol- a goddess- a woman with curves。Yet, through all that she's never been labeled simply a 'woman。' In today's world we find so many labels that force woman to try to over-achieve。 To fit this pre-set mold that others have of The Beauty of Living Twice was a lovely new audio created by Sharon Stone that told of her career endeavors, friendships, trials and tribulations and hardships with her health。While, I'm not a huge fan I'm not unaware that she was labeled much like Marilyn Monroe -a sex symbol- a goddess- a woman with curves。Yet, through all that she's never been labeled simply a 'woman。' In today's world we find so many labels that force woman to try to over-achieve。 To fit this pre-set mold that others have of us。 I felt this feeling of growing into herself even in an older age that requires more than mere stamina。 It requires a true knowledge of oneself。 One's beliefs。 One's ulterior motives。 One's true compass and faith in achieving such goals。While Sharon has been chasing this money train for years she's also been on a wild ride and this audio reflects those hair raising moments especially with regards to her strokes and the brain bleeds。It's god awful to have to endure yet, like many of us she's able to live again and do it right the second time around。Thank god for second chances。Much love to her and her family in these stages of her life。A great read with much hope but too much friendship based stories and not enough meat and bone。I was hoping to learn more personal details about her life and not about others in her inner circle for whom I don't know or care to know。Thank you to Bibliotheca for this copy in exchange for this honest review。 。。。more

Meh。 Some of it was interesting but it focuses largely on her childhood, her charity work and her stroke/brain hemorrhage。 Which are, in fact, interesting to read about (particularly her family) and she is introspective, but If you are expecting to hear anything about her experiences Hollywood, movies, costars, single parenting, the adoption of her children, losing custody of her oldest son, her marriage or other romantic relationships, aging out of Hollywood and jobs drying up, how she makes a Meh。 Some of it was interesting but it focuses largely on her childhood, her charity work and her stroke/brain hemorrhage。 Which are, in fact, interesting to read about (particularly her family) and she is introspective, but If you are expecting to hear anything about her experiences Hollywood, movies, costars, single parenting, the adoption of her children, losing custody of her oldest son, her marriage or other romantic relationships, aging out of Hollywood and jobs drying up, how she makes a living now, etc。 it isn’t in there, aside from her briefly addressing “that scene” in Basic Instinct。 And the absence of all of that material feels fairly glaring for a memoir。 I don’t need her to spill every private detail about everything, but I think you expect much more — Demi Moore’s memoir is a good example。 。。。more
Michael,
The biggest takeaway from reading this book is that Sharon Stone is NOT a writer。 It’s a scattershot of a memoir, like your finding pages of her diary strewn around a parking lot on a blustery day。
Leslie P。,
I wanted to like this book, as I have admired Sharon Stone’s fierceness and assertiveness during an era when that was unwelcome from women。 I unfortunately found the writing too patchy, too much striving to show how generous and kind and smart she is, vs。 humbly admitting any foibles。 Do I still admire Stone? Yes, as a person, no as a writer。

I am very happily giving this book a 3。8。 Wow, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed listening to this book。 If you get the chance to listen to the audio version, I suggest you take it。 Sharon’s voice was so raw and emotional and I learned so much about her。 One thing that impressed me is the amount of philanthropy work and volunteering she does。 I had no idea she gave back so much。 She seems like a genuine woman who would give you the shirt off her back。 The only thing I didn’t reall I am very happily giving this book a 3。8。 Wow, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed listening to this book。 If you get the chance to listen to the audio version, I suggest you take it。 Sharon’s voice was so raw and emotional and I learned so much about her。 One thing that impressed me is the amount of philanthropy work and volunteering she does。 I had no idea she gave back so much。 She seems like a genuine woman who would give you the shirt off her back。 The only thing I didn’t really care for is that in the beginning I felt she jumped around a bit when telling her story so I was a little confused。 She ended up stream lining the details she wanted to share later on which put the book back on track。 Glad I gave this a chance。 。。。more

Sharon Stone is not a professional writer but it doesn't matter; here this is HERstory that is important: her joys, her battles, her career, her kids。。。 What a woman!! I am impressed! She really deserves more。。。 I hope people will see her in a different way!! For the book itself, some photos included would have been icing on the cake! Carol Dervis,
Very interesting story told by Sharon about her family, her health struggles and career struggles due to her illness。 There is some Hollywood glitz and glamour but not a lot。 It is more about her personal challenges。
Sandra,
Sharon has certainly led a fascinating life and has a lot of interesting stories and worthwhile points to tell/make。 But that's exactly what this book is: loosely collected stories from her life and thoughts about social issues, acting, spirituality, etc。 The book is very disjointed and incoherent。 Kudos to Sharon for not using a ghost-writer but the book needed a good editor and more polishing。 Sharon has certainly led a fascinating life and has a lot of interesting stories and worthwhile points to tell/make。 But that's exactly what this book is: loosely collected stories from her life and thoughts about social issues, acting, spirituality, etc。 The book is very disjointed and incoherent。 Kudos to Sharon for not using a ghost-writer but the book needed a good editor and more polishing。 。。。more

4 stars。 I love memoir and biography so I was really interested in reading about Sharon Stone, someone who always seemed enigmatic。 I was deeply impacted by her story and the truths shared。 As a beautiful and successful actress, the persona I see doesn’t always ring true to me (not just for Stone, but for many successful people, especially those in show biz。) She often seemed confident, smart, articulate, sassy and irreverent, slightly ditzy, informed, committed, down to earth, and incredibly al 4 stars。 I love memoir and biography so I was really interested in reading about Sharon Stone, someone who always seemed enigmatic。 I was deeply impacted by her story and the truths shared。 As a beautiful and successful actress, the persona I see doesn’t always ring true to me (not just for Stone, but for many successful people, especially those in show biz。) She often seemed confident, smart, articulate, sassy and irreverent, slightly ditzy, informed, committed, down to earth, and incredibly aloof。 Quite human, actually! After reading (I listened on Audible) I was deeply touched by her narrative。 The truths shared were often times heart-breaking, hard to hear, infuriating and quite humbling。 Her childhood and family trauma were hard to say the least but she shares them unflinchingly。 Stone’s own emotion while reading was hard to hear at times because of the sheer pain, sorrow and confusion she felt over very personal and professional stories。。。yet she also clearly has a triumphant and strong essence that she exudes to impart that she has processed, handled and still is navigating past experiences as she welcomes her future。 I’m especially humbled by her endless devotion to many important causes like amFar, homelessness, and more。 Her earthiness is fun。 How else can you talk about things like wrangling up millions of dollars for AIDS research with wealthy and famous people, and also include loving being a waitress, getting to know your mom’s own traumatic past, going to the Oscars, have a life changing aneurysm -and more without seeing the incredibly surreal, incongruent and roller-coaster of a ride called life? I only wish she included more about her spiritual beliefs because I’m not only interested, I’m sure she’s cultivated a spirituality that is strong, evolving and is just as interesting as her other experiences。 。。。more

Excellent! There's a lot to Sharon Stone beyond 'that' scene in Basic Instinct。 She's funny, intelligent, capable and inspiring。 Her 'superstardom' is perhaps the least interesting thing about her, which is not meant as a backhanded compliment, more a recommendation to dive into this quite astonishing tale of survival and rebirth。 Excellent! It is difficult to give a « rating » to such a profound and intimate autobiography。 I listened to The Beauty of Living Twice as an audiobook and it was as if Sharon Stone and I were close friends and she was telling me about her life, her perspective, her experiences。 I was struck by her strong personality and generosity。 Hers was not an easy life due to childhood abuse, poor health and the gruelling life of a movie star。 Sharon Stone was a particularly gifted child both intellectually and physi It is difficult to give a « rating » to such a profound and intimate autobiography。 I listened to The Beauty of Living Twice as an audiobook and it was as if Sharon Stone and I were close friends and she was telling me about her life, her perspective, her experiences。 I was struck by her strong personality and generosity。 Hers was not an easy life due to childhood abuse, poor health and the gruelling life of a movie star。 Sharon Stone was a particularly gifted child both intellectually and physically。 She was a beauty queen at a young age in addition to being sent to post secondary education at 15 years old。 She was brought up to be self reliant by her parents who themselves had had difficult lives。 I am around the same age and I could relate to many things she talks about regarding the role of women in society specially those of us who worked in a male dominated industry。 There is at times a twinge of bitterness in her recollections and I found myself thinking of what could have been if Sharon had been a man。 As Taylor Swift sings: “If I was a man, I’d be the man。” That would definitely apply here as well。 。。。more

I love a memoir narrated by the author themselves。 Sharon Stone has a great voice, very classy I thought。 Interesting to hear her personal stories and new found insights after her illness。 She seems very at peace。 Loved what she had to say about women at age 40 and then at 60。 Some incredibly touching moments that had me in tears。 Might have gone on a tad bit too long at some points but definitely one of the better memoirs I've listened to。 I love a memoir narrated by the author themselves。 Sharon Stone has a great voice, very classy I thought。 Interesting to hear her personal stories and new found insights after her illness。 She seems very at peace。 Loved what she had to say about women at age 40 and then at 60。 Some incredibly touching moments that had me in tears。 Might have gone on a tad bit too long at some points but definitely one of the better memoirs I've listened to。 。。。more

Listen on audio read by the author, I do not like to rate anyone’s memoir low but this one was just ok and I’m not sure why? I wasn’t looking for gossip or “tell all” and I can certainly appreciate her perseverance, this just moved slow。
